Mr. Atila served in the Turkish Navy as an officer for 8 years and graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School with an MS degree in December 1990. He’s been working at the Monterey Institute of International Studies as the Director of Information Systems since June 1993. Mr. Atila was the president of the Turkish American Association of California until recently. He founded the Horon Turkish Folk Ensemble in July 1993 in Monterey and serves as its director and dance instructor. He is the co-founder of the first TAAC chapter – TAAC Monterey Bay – in January 1996 and was the director of the chapter from May 1997 to May 1999. He has been serving on the TAAC Board since May 1997, first as the Vice President for the Monterey Bay Group for the 1997-1998 term and as the President from May 1998 until December 1999. Mr. Atila received ATAA’s Meritorious Service Award in October 1999.
