Oktay
Akbay was born in Tirilye-Turkey.Came to U.S.A at young age
in 1959. Earned his degree in history from Berry College,
and graduate degree in school administration and
supervision from Alabama A&M University. Taught
government,world history and economics at Huntsville High
School. He was the coach and founder of HHS Soccer Team
1976-1996. He was voted coach of the year four times. He
won the city title four times. Won the Dixie Conference
Championship and the area championships. Huntsville High
School Soccer Field House was dedicated in his honor.
Selected into the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of
Fame Class of 2004.
The
team was outfitted with several custom made uniforms in
Bursa and brought back each summer by Mrs.Reyan Akbay. He
has two daughters , Ozlem and Cigdem. Two grandchildren,
Miray and Savena Reyan. All family members are very active
in Turkish issues.
